FARAD ALI
Visionary | Business & Economic Development Executive | Community Leader
Farad Ali is a distinguished C-Suite and board leader with a wealth of experience in economic development, business operations, finance and civic engagement. He currently serves as the Executive Chairman of the Board at Asociar, LLC, and holds pivotal board positions with organizations such as the Research Triangle Park, Center for Community Self-Help and Latino Community Credit Union.
A strong advocate for equity and economic empowerment, Farad emphasizes the importance of people within organizations. His career is marked by a commitment to creating diverse and inclusive environments and ensuring broad access to economic opportunities.
Economic Development and Leadership: As CEO of the National Institute for Economic Development, Farad facilitated over $1 billion in economic opportunities by driving policy changes, enhancing supply chain diversity and building strategic partnerships.
Business Growth: Under his leadership, Asociar’s revenue grew from $123 million to $300 million, making it the largest Black-owned business in Northern Texas.
Board Service and Governance: Farad has contributed to the governance of more than 15 organizations, focusing on economic growth, financial integrity and equitable business practices. His previous board roles included positions with Duke University Health System and the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce.
Community and Civic Engagement: Farad has been actively involved in civic activities, including serving as a Durham City Council Member, co-chairing the Durham County $170 million Education Bonds, and participating in the National League of Cities’ Economic Development Steering Committee.
Planet Mogul: Farad co-founded Planet Mogul, an initiative designed to nurture socially conscious entrepreneurs and leaders. Planet Mogul focuses on creating a pipeline of future-ready students, equipping young people with entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
Awards and Recognition: His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Forbes Next 1000 and the U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency for Outstanding Performance.
ROHENA MILLER
Accomplished Entrepreneur | Pioneer | Internationally Recognized Innovator
Rohena Miller is a trailblazer in the field of economic inclusion, with over 30 years of experience shaping the business landscape. She is the President of Niche Marketing, an award-winning marketing and public relations firm based in Durham, North Carolina, founded in 1990, having worked with many Fortune 100 companies. Under her leadership, Niche Marketing has become a recognized leader in the industry, known for its innovative approaches and commitment to diversity.
Advocacy for Diverse Business Communities: Rohena has been a tireless advocate for diverse business communities. She made history as the first woman to be elected Chair of the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) of the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). In this role, she led initiatives that supported over 16,500 diverse business owners. She also served as the Chair of the NMSDC National Corporation of the Year Award for 16 years, overseeing the most prestigious recognition for corporate supplier diversity programs.
Innovative Educational Initiatives: In addition to her work with Niche Marketing and the NMSDC, Rohena created the Planet Mogul platform, a legacy program of Niche Marketing. Planet Mogul focuses on creating a pipeline of future-ready students, equipping young people with entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
Global Influence and Recognitions:
Rohena’s influence extends beyond her company and the United States.
- Founded the Grand Gala, which quickly became one of the most sought-after celebrity event during the Kentucky Derby Weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.
- United Nations EQUALS Committee Member. This committee allows Rohena to contribute to global efforts that close the gender digital divide, while promoting gender equality in technology access, skills and leadership.

Meet Ellington Ali: Aspiring Medical Professional and Dynamic Leader
Ellington Ali is a passionate and driven high school student from Durham, North Carolina with a clear vision for a future in the medical field. Scheduled to graduate in June 2026 from Durham School of the Arts, Ellington is dedicated to both academic excellence and extracurricular involvement, embodying a strong work ethic and a commitment to teamwork.
Educational Journey As an Honors and AP Student, Ellington maintains a GPA of 3.6 while diving into college prep classes that lay the foundation for future studies in medicine. Her membership in the National Honor Society reflects a commitment to academic achievement, while participation in various programs designed for future medical professionals showcases a keen eagerness to learn and grow.
Summer Programs & Hands-On Experience Ellington has seized opportunities to expand knowledge through elite summer programs, including:
- North Carolina Central University Biotech Immersion Program (June 2024): A transformative 10-day residential experience where Ellington explored biotechnology, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy while engaging with local biotech companies.
- Duke University STEM Mary Ann Black Program(June 2024): A behind-the-scenes look at over 70 healthcare careers, where Ellington collaborated with peers from 18 schools, enhancing their understanding of various medical professions.
- Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program (June 2022): An inspiring hands-on learning experience that allowed Ellington to connect with top faculty, researchers, and industry professionals.
